Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) is helping two students to further their career in water technology and growing the utility department's workforce. On Tuesday, August 10, Gerardo R. Carrasco and Irvin M. Villa received full scholarships to complete the Water Technology Program at Dona Ana Community College and New Mexico State University. The two students were recognized at a signing ceremony this morning in the Council Chambers at Las Cruces City Hall. The scholarships can be valued up to $65,000 when considering the cost of tuition, housing, food, books, other fees associated with the program, and certifications. In addition, the pair will be provided with up to 20 hours of paid work a week and tutoring with the water utility. Each student has committed to working with LCU after graduation.
The LCU Internship Program has been operating for about three years and has developed a handful of graduates. The scholarships help to ensure the continuation of reliable, safe drinking water for the City of Las Cruces, and reliable wastewater service for the future.
