The City of Las Cruces is undergoing a master land development plan to guide the development of City-owned property adjacent to the far East Lohman Avenue Corridor.
The final draft of the “East Lohman Development Plan” has been completed and is available for public review and comment. Interested individuals are invited to view the plan at the project website: www.planeastlohman.com.
The East Lohman Development Plan has been prepared with the following objectives:
- Guide the development of a mixed-use, mixed income, and mobility-minded neighborhood/center.
- Respect and integrate neighborhood development with the existing terrain, arroyos, vegetation, trails, and walking paths.
- Create a unique neighborhood/center that advances the City’s vision to be an inclusive community, recognized for its cultural diversity, enchanting natural amenities , and vibrant quality of life.
The East Lohman Development Plan includes a conceptual site plan with health service, mixed commercial/hospitality, missing middle housing, detached housing, and open space land use areas. The circulation pattern recommended for the plan encourages walkable blocks and design elements to safely accommodate vehicles, bicycles, and human movement. Overall, the site plan promotes and creates a neighborhood center that values healthy lifestyles and living, provides diverse and attainable housing, and incorporates the existing open spaces and appropriate green infrastructure into the site. It also was created reflecting the engagement and input solicited throughout the plan’s development process.
