[ARCHIVED] City Council Candidates to File on August 24

Candidates who intend to run in the November 2 City Council elections are reminded that Candidate Filing Day will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021 at the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office, 845 N. Motel Boulevard.

City Council elections in districts 3, 5 and 6 will be conducted this year.

Candidates can go to the City of Las Cruces website, at https://www.las-cruces.org/2501/Candidate-Information, to obtain a Declaration of Candidacy and Disclosure Statement. The Declaration of Candidacy must be submitted in person with a copy of the candidate’s Voter Registration card when filing their candidacy at the County Clerk’s Office. The Declaration of Candidacy and Voter Registration card will be used to verify that a candidate lives in the City Council district where they seek to be elected.

The Disclosure Statement must be filed with the City Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 31. The first candidate Campaign Finance Summary Statement is due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 21.  The Campaign Finance Summary Statements are on an electronic portal, so those can only be submitted online.

All candidates for City Council should be aware that any late submissions of finance forms will be assessed a penalty of $50 a day.
