[ARCHIVED] Police Seek Potential Witness to Lohman Shooting

White Van

Las Cruces police are hoping to speak with a potential witness to the Aug. 16 shooting on Lohman Avenue that claimed the life of 40-year-old Ezekiel Diaz.

Investigators believe the witness was driving what appears to be a white Ford Transport minivan and heading east on Lohman Avenue at the time of the shooting. Investigators believe the witness likely saw the shooting and can provide valuable information to help solve the case.

Las Cruces police emphasized that the driver of the minivan is only believed to be a witness and was not involved in the shooting. Investigators ask the driver of the white transport van to call police immediately at 575/526-0795.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, Las Cruces police and fire were dispatched to the report of a possible gunshot victim on the roadway near the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walnut Street.

Police arrived to find a man, later identified as Diaz, on the roadway near the driver’s-side door of a black sport utility vehicle. The SUV was stopped on Lohman facing east.

Preliminary information from the investigation indicates Diaz was struck by at least one gunshot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Las Cruces-Doña Ana County Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 cash reward for information that helps identify the suspect or suspects. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to immediately call Las Cruces police at 575/526-0795. Tips can be provided anonymously by calling Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 800/222-8477. Tips can also be provided through the Las Cruces Crime Stoppers app, “P3 TIPS.” The app is available through the App Store on most devices.

Those who provide tips through Crime Stoppers do not have to leave their own name and will remain completely anonymous.
