[ARCHIVED] Water Hydrant Flushing Planned for October 7

Red fire-hydrant

Residents and businesses in the area near 4335 Kingston drive may experience some discolored water for a short time between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., on Thursday October 7 and Friday October 8.

The City of Las Cruces, Water Section will be performing a water system power flush to clean the main lines in the area of sand, iron, and manganese. The flush will occur until water is cleared up in the main lines.

The affected areas will include:

  • Del Rey area near Parkhill
  • Parkhill area near Kingston

Residents may notice discolored water due to iron and manganese. Although the water is safe to drink, City officials recommend waiting to wash laundry until after the water becomes clear.

City crews will flush area fire hydrants after the power flush to clean up any discolored water in the areas.

The discoloration should disappear within 24 hours. If it does not, residents should flush outside and/or cold-water faucets in the house for five minutes.
If the discoloration remains, call the City of Las Cruces at 526-0500 for assistance.
