[ARCHIVED] "Teen Science Cafe - A.I. and Machine Learning" Online with the Museum of Nature & Science

Super Volcano

The Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St., invites all middle and high school students to join us online for a virtual “Teen Science Café – Super Volcanoes,” with guest presenter Frank Ramos, PhD.

The event will be conducted via Zoom webinar at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021. Email education@las-cruces.org for a link to the webinar or visit zoom.us with webinar ID 83377561562. This program is recommended for teens 11 to 17.

New Mexico is home to a super volcano, the Valles Caldera near Jemez, New Mexico. By dating crystals from massive eruptions like the one that formed the Valles Caldera, Ramos finds clues to the processes that lead up to super-volcanic eruptions. Learn how and take a virtual tour of the Johnson Mass Spectrometer Lab at this month’s “Teen Science Café.”

Ramos researches the processes that generate super-volcanic eruptions and how highly explosive magmas form and accumulate before major eruptive events. He works with volcanoes including the Valles Caldera and Changbaishan volcano in North Korea and China.

The Museum of Nature & Science is accessible via RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1, Stop 1. For information, visit the Museums System website at: MUSEUMS | Las Cruces, NM (las-cruces.org) or follow us on Facebook and Instagram @LCMuseums.
