The Las Cruces Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St., will offer in-person Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs for children and families this January.
The programs are free but require registration in advance. Register in-person at the Museum of Nature & Science atrium desk before the registration deadlines listed.
“Nature & Science Discovery Pre-K: Nature Kids”
9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursdays
Learn about geological processes through stories and crafts. “Pre-K” takes place at 9 a.m. every Thursday. Register in advance for January by December 31. No class is scheduled on January 6. Recommended for ages 2 to 5, adult caregiver participation is required.
“Saturday Family Science – Volcanoes!”
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 8
Work as a team to explore how volcanoes work and create an eruption using chemical reactions. Registration closes December 31. Recommended for ages 6 and older, adult caregiver participation is required.
“STEAMpunk – Rosalind Franklin, geneticist”
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 15
Discover the stories behind science heroes who break barriers and explore the applications of their research through STEM. Registration closes January 8. Recommended for ages 6 to 10.
“Live Animal Feedings”
11 a.m. Saturday, January 8 and January 15
It’s brunch time! Watch and learn how different species of animals eat, and what they eat. Animal feedings take place in the gallery at the Museum of Nature & Science. No registration is required.
“Animal Encounters”
11 a.m. to noon Saturday, January 22
Learn about the diverse world of reptiles and get up close to some of the museum’s residents. No registration required.
