The Las Cruces City Council will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St. for a regularly scheduled meeting.

The meeting will be the first for two City Council members, Becki A. Graham, who will be the District 3 representative on the Council, and Becky Ann Corran, who will represent City Council District 5. Graham and Corran will serve four-year terms.

Monday’s meeting will be the first time in Las Cruces history that all six City Council districts are represented by women.

Because a new City Council will be seated, it will select a member to serve as Mayor Pro Tem for at least the next two years. After every City Council election, the Council selects a Mayor Pro Tem. Councilor Kasandra Gandara has been serving as Mayor Pro Tem.

Also, on the agenda for Monday’s meeting, the Council will consider adoption of a Resolution to accept the Standard Rules of Procedure for the City Council. Article II, Sec. 2.08(b), of the Las Cruces City Charter requires the Council to adopt its “own rules, policies and order or business.”

The City Council Rules of Standard Procedure provides the Council with the required rules and policies to conduct meetings and general City business. The Rules include annotations explaining the rules and references to authoritative sections of the City Charter and the Las Cruces Municipal Code (LCMC).

The Rules are to be interpreted and administered in a manner consistent with the City Charter and LCMC Article II Sec. 2.27, as amended, and the laws of the State of New Mexico.

Additionally, City Council will consider adoption of an Ordinance that would authorize the conveyance of a city-owned vacant parcel, known as Lot 2 of the Sierra Summary Subdivision, to Tierra Del Sol Housing Corp. for the development of affordable housing.

The City acquired the vacant parcel of land several years ago from the Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) in exchange for a road improvement project. The agreement with LCPS requires affordable housing development on the parcel, which is adjacent to Sierra Middle School.

The agenda for Monday’s City Council meeting is available online at: https://lascruces.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=352.

Monday’s meeting will be televised live on CLC-TV, Comcast Cable channel 20, and in high definition on Comcast Cable channel 928. The meeting will also be webcast online at clctv.com and at YouTube.com/clctv20.
