[ARCHIVED] "Listen to Your Art" with the Las Cruces Museum of Art

May Programs with the Las Cruces Museum of Art

The next “Listen to Your Art” lecture with the Las Cruces Museum of Art will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 21.

Megan Jacobs will discuss the life and work of Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi. The lecture will be hosted through Zoom and is accessible with the following link and passcode:

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81713079226
Passcode: 598345

Megan Jacobs is an Associate Professor in the Honors College at the University of New Mexico and an Adobe Master Educator. Jacobs earned a master’s in fine arts degree in photography and her work explores delicate relationships – our existence as material and concept, the interweaving between two partners in love, and the bond of parent and child.

Jacobs’ work has been featured in “Musee,” “Lenscratch2217,” “Feature Shoot,” “Frankie,” and “F-STOP” magazines. Her work has been exhibited across the U.S. and internationally and has been part of exhibitions at Aperture Gallery, Blue Sky Gallery, The FENCE, Saatchi Gallery, the Museum of New Art (MONA), Pingyao Photographic Festival, and the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA).

Rinko Kawauchi is one of the most lauded Japanese contemporary photographers. Her work uses photography as a tool to poetically record and highlight the aesthetics of everyday life.

Kawauchi’s works have been published in dozens of monographs which explore motherhood, Japanese culture, and the natural world. This lecture will explore the breadth of Kawauchi’s work and forge connections between her unique photographic approach and the field of contemporary philosophical study, aesthetics.

The Las Cruces Museum of Art, 491 N. Main St., is accessible via RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1, Stop 1. Visit the Museums System website at: MUSEUMS | Las Cruces, NM (las-cruces.org) or follow the Las Cruces Museums on Facebook and Instagram @LCMuseums.
