[ARCHIVED] Winterize Your Pipes

Winterize Pipes

With very cold weather expected in Las Cruces later this week, it is a good idea for Las Cruces Utilities customers to consider winterizing their exterior pipes and faucets with Styrofoam cups.
Styrofoam cups are available at local hardware stores. They are an excellent method of protection.
Local hardware stores also have other types of insulation for piping, such as heat tape and wrap-around insulation. If you are unable to get to a hardware store, using old blankets and towels can do the trick by wrapping them around the pipes and taping them down.
To protect your landscaping water system, you may want to turn if off during the winter so none of the waterlines are full of water.
You can also watch our “Winterize Your Pipes” video, on YouTube, at for additional information and tips. The TTY phone number is 575/541-2182.
