Las Cruces Firefighters, Airport Administration and New Mexico State Police responded to Las Cruces International Airport (LRU) just after 2:30 this afternoon following a report of a crash along the Northeast boundary of the airport just off Box Canyon Road. Initial reports were that the plane lost power upon take-off and was put down in the desert just outside the airport boundary.
When crews arrived, they found the pilot had self-evacuated and only suffered minor injuries. No other passengers were onboard. There were no fuel or fluid leaks present.
The scene was turned over to New Mexico State Police by Airport Staff. The final cause is still under investigation.
