The Las Cruces City Council will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2022 in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St., for a work session.
City Council will receive a brief update from the City’s Performance Management office regarding the realignment process for strategic planning. The presentation will include a preview of the transparency portal for future performance reporting.
Additionally, City staff will present an overview of the collaboration between the City and Sierra Norte Land Holdings, a limited liability company in Las Cruces, for the planned extension of Mesa Grande Drive, from U.S. Highway 70 to Lohman Avenue. In May 2007, the annexation of approximately nine square miles on the East Mesa was approved by City Council.
The annexation of that East Mesa land is the largest in Las Cruces’ history.
Mesa Grande Drive is on land that was included in the annexation. Since 2007, there have been conceptual plans to extend Mesa Grande Drive from U.S. Highway 70 to Lohman Avenue. However, the land has remained undeveloped and has a “Holding” zoning designation.
City administrators said 15 years ago that any plans to extend Mesa Grande Drive would largely depend on continued progress and efforts to develop the East Mesa.
