Several events open to the public are scheduled this week in observance of Economic Development Week, from Monday, May 9, 2022, to Friday, May 13, 2022.
A webinar titled “Doing Business With the City of Las Cruces,” will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, May 9 via Zoom. The webinar will share information with local businesses about how to secure invitations for bids.
The webinar also will walk participants through the vendor setup process and registration, and participating businesses will hear about billing and payment procedures. A roundtable discussion on El Paseo Road and Solano Drive corridors will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 at Citizens Bank, 505 S. Main St. Residents and businesses interested in learning more about plans to revitalize the El Paseo Road and Solano Drive corridors are invited to attend.
From noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 11 a webinar titled “Realizing the Value of An Untapped Workforce” will be conducted via Zoom. Online registration for the free webinar is available at: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82444374537.
A Career Fair will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University Ave. The Career Fair will be co-sponsored by New Mexico Workforce Connection and the City’s Economic Development Department.
The Career Fair is free to employers and job seekers. Local agencies also are welcome to provide information services available to the community. At least 18 employers will participate in the event.
Additionally, employers are invited to participate in free employer workshops, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the Convention Center. Employers interested in starting an apprenticeship program at their business can learn more about those opportunities during a presentation from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12. Also, employers can get more information on the state’s Work Opportunity Tax Credit during a presentation from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12.
Job seekers who will be attending the Career Fair are encouraged to bring copies of their resumé to share with employers. On the spot interviews will be available at the event, so job seekers should dress appropriately.
Free RoadRUNNER Transit service to and from the Career Fair will be available to job seekers. Also, free in-person résumé assistance will be available for job seekers. For information, call New Mexico Workforce Connection at 575/524-6250.
The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions will have its mobile unit at the Convention Center during the Career Fair. Computers will be available for the public to register with the New Mexico Workforce Connection Online System. Job seekers can post their résumé, search, and apply for jobs throughout New Mexico.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, there will be open house tours of Doña Ana Community College’s (DACC) Espina Campus, 3400 S. Espina St., the DACC Workforce Center, 2345 E. Nevada Ave., and the DACC East Mesa Campus, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Boulevard. DACC invites Las Cruces residents and community members to visit their three Las Cruces campuses.
Visitors can learn about programs, take tours of up-to-date laboratories, find out more about the Opportunity Scholarship, and under the economic impact DACC and its programs have on the local economy.
