Las Cruces police are investigating a two-vehicle crash on west Picacho Avenue that injured a motorcyclist Tuesday morning.
The crash occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the intersection of Picacho Avenue and Burke Road. The 20-year-old motorcyclist suffered multiple injuries and was transported to an area hospital. His condition is not known at this time.
The driver of the second vehicle, a Nissan sedan, was not physically injured.
Preliminary information from the investigation indicates the Nissan was entering Picacho Avenue, south from Burke Road, with the intention of turning east on Picacho. At the same time, the motorcyclist was traveling west on Picacho. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. The driver of the Nissan remained on scene and has been cooperative with investigators.
A portion of Picacho Avenue, between Roadrunner Lane and the Rio Grande bridge, is temporarily closed while police map the scene and collect evidence. The outlet from Burke Road onto Picacho Avenue is also closed at this time. Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes until the on-scene investigation is complete.
