Judy Pekelsma is a visionary artist who focuses on sharing experience and technical skills via studio instruction. Recently retired, Mrs. Pekelsma taught Art Appreciation and Art History for more than 20 years at Eastern New Mexico University. She currently owns a studio and gallery in Carrizozo where she teaches classes in pottery and painting while maintaining her own studio practice.
“I have studied Ms. O’Keeffe for my own practice of painting since learning about her work in the early 1970s. Reading constantly about her life and practice, I have much to offer as insights into how she became such an iconic artist for our times. My presentation shall include images of her work and her life. We shall explore her early days in Texas that occurred during WWI and move into her success as a young artist. Finally, we shall explore her later life in Abiquiu.”
