[ARCHIVED] Make Music Day 2022 Performances at the Rio Grande Theater and Plaza de Las Cruces

Free Music Performances from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.


Hangout downtown, Tuesday June 21, 2022, for free music performances as part of the Make Music Day celebrations.
 
Performances start at 2 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. and will include a variety of community performers taking the stage in celebration.
 
The lineup at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St., starts at 2 p.m. with Vince Galban, a solo guitar act performing rock covers and original music. Following the solo act is “Cuerdas,” a trio of two classical guitars and a cello at 3:15 p.m.
 
“Zeta and The Songbirds” will perform at 5 p.m., this five-piece band is known for their R&B and pop/pop-rock covers. Closing out the event will be the “Border Jazz Quartet Open Jam Session” starting at 7 p.m. Audience participation in encouraged; bring your instruments and real books and play along with Roman Chip and his talented band as they bring their open jam session to the theater stage.
 
Performances at Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St., will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with “The Men from Mars,” a local indie garage band performing original music. Following the opening act will be “Mosaic” at 6:30 p.m. Returning to the stage for an in-person performance is “Cosmic Unknown Band” at 7:30 p.m., who participated in the virtual Make Music Day 2021. Closing the event on the outdoor stage is “Love and the Emotions” at 8:45 p.m.
 
In addition to the downtown concerts, Frank Lovato will give a free guitar lesson at A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven Center, 906 N Tornillo St., from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Bring your guitars. Jamie O’Hara will perform at the Doña Ana Arts Council Gallery, 250 W. Amador Ave., from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
 
Admission for all events is free. At the Rio Grande Theatre, doors will open at 1:30 p.m.
 
Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world. Launched in 1982 in France as the “Fête de la Musique,” it is now on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.
