If it’s hard to remember when to put your blue recycling bin at the curb… go online and sign up for Recycle Coach at the South Central Solid Waste Authority (SCSWA) website. It’s a free service!

“We’ve been pointing more and more people to this service, and even walking them through it to make sure they know how to use it,” explained Miguel Fernandez, SCSWA Recycling administrator. “Recycle Coach can assist so you don’t have to rely on whether your neighbors have their blue bins at the curb to know if it’s your recycling day. Plus, you can print out a handy schedule for the month and put it on the fridge.”

When you go to www.SCSWA.net, the “Recycle Coach” link is immediately visible on your computer screen. Click on the link and scroll down to “My Schedule.” You will see “View Schedule” and “Set Reminders”. For first time use, it’ll ask for your address and from there, a calendar will pop up to show the two dates during the month when you can expect curbside recycling pickup at your address.

Recycle Coach can send you a reminder for every recycling pickup in advance times of 1 hour before, to 12 hours before, or even 1 week before. Those reminders can come by email, by text message, or by phone call.

“We want our customers to have access to recycling pickup every time, and not wait another two weeks for service,” said Fernandez. “The free Recycle Coach reminders should really help.”

The page also reminds customers of the preferred, high quality recyclable materials - corrugated cardboard, plastic bottles and jugs #1 & #2, copier and printer paper, and clean steel, aluminum and tin cans.

Remember to RECYCLE RIGHT:

  • please do NOT bag your recyclables,
  • All items should be clean, dry and loose in the blue bin.

Green Connections is submitted by the South Central Solid Waste Authority (SCSWA) managing solid waste, recyclables, and working to stop illegal dumping for residents and businesses throughout Doña Ana County. Contact the SCSWA at (575) 528-3800 or visit www.SCSWA.net.
