Those interested in a career as a Las Cruces firefighter have until midnight to complete an online application.
Applications for the Las Cruces fire academy, scheduled to begin this fall, must be completed and submitted online prior to 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
Prospective applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be at least 18 years of age by the start of the fire academy. Cadets must maintain a level of physical fitness that meets department standards. Successful applicants also must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
The fire academy provides EMT-Basic coursework during the academy. Candidates also subject to an acrophobia test, an assessment board, a background investigation and polygraph test, medical examination, a physical ability test and a written exam.
The annual salary for a non-certified fire cadet is $34,320. Upon graduation from the fire academy, graduates will fill vacancies within the Las Cruces Fire Department.
