Telescope

The Las Cruces Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St., will offer in-person Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) programs for children and families this July.
 
Admission to the museum and to participate in the programs is free.
 
“Nature & Science Discovery PreK”
 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursdays
 Registration is open for August’s Pre-K series. Nurture your little one’s love of science! Investigate paleontology through hands-on explorations, stories, and crafts every Thursday in August. Please register in-person at the Museum of Nature & Science by July 29. Recommended for ages 2 to 5 with an adult caregiver.
 
“Saturday Family Science – Cotton Ball Cannons”
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9
Man your stations!  Learn how to build your own cotton ball cannon using things you can find around your own house. Recommended for ages 6 and older, adult caregiver participation is required.
 
“Telescope Views”
7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 12
The first images from the James Webb Space Telescope will be released on July 12. Take a close look at the image and learn about what it shows from astronomer Dr. Pedraza and look into the night sky with a telescope viewing from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. No registration needed, all ages.
 
“STEAMpunk – Lewis Latimer and Paper Circuits”
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23
In 1881, Lewis Latimer received a patent for the “Electric Lamp.” This was an improved way of using electricity to produce light. STEAMpunk this month will dive into who Latimer was by creating our own paper circuits. No registration needed, recommended for ages 10 and older.
 
“Summer Wednesdays – Skulltastic!”
First Session at 5 p.m., Second Session at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 6
Learn how to identify different animal species by observing different skulls during this interactive program. No registration needed, all ages.
 
“Live Animal Feedings”
11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, July 9, July 16
It is brunch time! Watch and learn how different species of animals eat, and what they eat. Animal feedings take place in the gallery at the Museum of Nature & Science. No registration needed, all ages.
  
“Animal Encounters”
11 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 23
Learn about the diverse world of reptiles and get up close to some of the museum’s residents. No registration needed, all ages.
