[ARCHIVED] September STEM Programs at the Museum of Nature and Science

The Las Cruces Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St., will offer in-person Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs for children and families this September. Admission to the museum and programs are free.
 
“Nature & Science Discovery PreK”
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursdays
Registration is open for October’s Pre-K series. Nurture your little one’s love of science! Investigate nature through hands-on explorations, stories, and crafts every Thursday in October. Please register in advance, in-person at the Museum of Nature & Science by August 27. Recommended for ages 2 to 5 with an adult caregiver.
 
“Introduction to UV Resin”
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 7; ages 13 to 17
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 14; ages 18 and older
Learn how to create one-of-a-kind keepsakes with UV resin. Ultraviolet resin is a synthetic resin that hardens in seconds when exposed to ultraviolet light. This resin can be mixed with dyes, powders, and small objects to create unique charms. All materials will be provided. Registration is required. Register in-person at the Museum of Nature & Science atrium desk no later than the Friday before the program.
 
“Saturday Family Science – Perpetual Motion Machines”
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 3
Design, build, and test a perpetual motion machine. Recommended for ages 6 and older, adult caregiver participation is required.
 
“STEAMpunk – BB King, Musician”
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17
Discover the stories behind science heroes who break barriers and explore the application of their research through hands-on experiments and activities. BB King revolutionized the blues. Learn about sound and acoustics with a rubber band guitar and amplifier. No registration needed, recommended for ages 6 and older, while supplies last.
 
“Live Animal Feedings”
Saturday, September 3 and September 10
It’s brunch time! Watch and learn how different species of animals eat, and what they eat. Animal feedings take place in the gallery at the Museum of Nature & Science. No registration needed, open to all ages.
 
“Animal Encounters”
11 a.m. to noon Saturday, September 24
Learn about the diverse world of reptiles and get up close to some of the museum’s residents. No registration needed, open to all ages.
