The Las Cruces City Council will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, in Council Chambers at City Hall, 700 N. Main St., for a work session.
The OIR Group, who is contracted by the City to audit the Las Cruces Police Department, will present to City Council its second semi-annual case review of completed LCPD internal affairs complaints at the work session. The audit report to be presented to Council is available online by clicking here. The agenda for Monday’s work session also includes a section for public comments regarding the OIR Group audit.
Additionally, City Council will receive a progress report on Realize Las Cruces at Monday’s work session. In March 2021, the City entered into a contract with Freese and Nichols, Inc., (F&N) to amend Las Cruces’ development codes, also known as Realize Las Cruces.
The project is anticipated to take two years to complete and consists of three phases. The first phase consisted of code user interviews, a virtual open house, and the gathering, review, and analysis of applicable codes and policies. The resulting deliverable for Phase One was the Code Diagnostic which outlined structural modifications to the existing code and recommended various content changes.
The findings of that report were shared with City Council during a work session in August 2021. Phase Two of Realize Las Cruces consists of the drafting and initial review of individual chapters of the code.
Monday’s work session also will include an overview and discussion of possible Automated Speed Enforcement – also known as speed cameras – as an option to supplement law enforcement efforts to combat speed violators in the City. Staff will present information regarding automated enforcement cameras, their various capabilities, and how the system works.
