The Mayor of the City of Las Cruces is seeking applicants willing to serve on a newly forming Integrated Pest Management Plan ad hoc committee.

Selected candidates will be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Las Cruces City Council to discuss and explore preventative strategies for the management of pests. To be considered, the applicant must reside within the municipal limits of the City of Las Cruces.

Applications can be submitted online at: https://onboard.las-cruces.org/board/2325.

The committee will be formed with 12 individuals who attend monthly meetings which may include visits to locations or facilities where city staff demonstrate current pest management practices and use of products. Committee members will be asked to review current strategies used by staff for different pests encountered throughout the seasons. Also, they will consider no spray zones or areas, a potential reduction of current weed removal standards or a tolerance of certain weeds, vector control and insects that are attracted to weeds, alternatives to using the chemical glyphosate, the use of pesticide products or practices on city property by private individuals, the expansion of safety approaches beyond minimum standards and the possibility that uncontrolled weeds and pests could cause structural damage on streets, sidewalks or other areas.

Meeting times and locations for the committee have not been established.

Anyone with questions regarding the Integrated Pest Management Plan ad hoc committee, call Parks & Recreation at 575/541-2550.
