1. What is ranked choice voting?

In ranked choice voting (RCV) the voter ranks all candidates in order of preference. This allows you to vote more than just your top pick and eliminates the need for runoff elections.

2. How do I know which Council District I'm in?

Your city council district is listed on your voter ID card. You can also look up your registration information, including city council district, on the Secretary of State's Voter Portal or call the City Clerk’s office at 575-541-2115

3. My Council District doesn't have an election. Can I still vote this November?

Yes, this year the Mayor and Municipal Judge I positions are at large so everyone who lives in the city limits will get to vote.

4. I'm thinking about running for City Council. Do I have to live in the District I plan to run for?

Yes, all candidates must be registered to vote in the District they want to represent. The deadline for candidates to make any changes to their voter registration is August 4^th, 2021. Changes can be made via the Secretary of State's Voter Portal.

5. Where can I find information on the candidates?

Anything a candidate files is public record and is uploaded to our candidate portal. Voters are encouraged to reach out to candidates to hear from them directly. Nonpartisan voter guides from trusted civic organizations (such as the League of Women Voters) can provide a good summary.

6. Do I need to register with the City Clerk in order to vote in a City election?

No, all city elections are run by the Doña Ana County Clerk’s office. You can register to vote for all elections with them.
