1. How do I get a speed bump in my neighborhood?

The City of Las Cruces has a Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program that may include installation of speed tables which are more effective than speed humps. 2. Can we add more stop signs to slow down traffic?

Many studies show that stop signs are not an effective measure for reducing midblock speeds. The overuse of stop signs may cause drives to respond carelessly to the stop signs. By Federal, States and Local laws "stop signs should not be used for speed control” Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

3. If there is not a speed limit posted, how fast should I drive?

If there is no speed limit posted on residential street, the speed limit is 30 miles per hour. As per City of Las Cruces Code of Ordinances, Section 27-12-6-1.2.

4. Why aren’t all crosswalks marked?

Marked crosswalks are usually at signalized intersections and in school zones where there are higher volumes of pedestrians. However, unmarked crosswalks occur at any street intersection and drivers must yield to pedestrians by law.
