The Las Cruces Museum of Art is excited to announce a dynamic collaborative program featuring dancers with the New Mexico University Dance Program who will present a movement performance influenced by the "Origami in the Garden: Transforming Paper to Sculpture" exhibition. Five NMSU dance students will express the beauty, structure, and story of the exhibit artwork through several dance styles, including contemporary, hip-hop, and flamenco. The dancers are Amelia Dunn, Zakaya Benge, Alexis Ramirez, Antonella Palma, and Thavisay Sisamout. The dances are co-choreographed by Applehelen Kirby and Ana Suffle, adjunct faculty at NMSU. "This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community of Las Cruces and provide valuable performance experience for our dance students," said Applehelen Kirby.

The Tai Chi Chuan form comprises a series of slow movements flowing from one to the next. Tai Chi was created to improve health, meditation, and self-defense. The movements are done slowly and calmly. The emphasis is on relaxation, correct posture, and the efficient use of muscles. Studies have shown that Tai Chi can help lower blood pressure and improve balance, coordination, and flexibility. It teaches stress management and basic self-defense, and conflict management skills. The class will be learning Professor Cheng Man-Ching’s 37-posture Tai Chi Chuan form. The instructor, Steven Haydu, has over thirty years of experience practicing and teaching Tai Chi Chuan.
